Why Johnny Depp Stopped Being in 21 Jump Street?
Still, Johnny Depp remembers how the final seasons of 21 Jump Street made him feel like he was “in a creative jail,” despite his gratitude for the show’s role in launching his film and television career. When asked about this by the Telegraph, Depp said, “It started to get a little show-offy, you know what I mean?” It’s only been off as of late.
There was so much happening that the story began to feel like a can of soup. You only have to sell and distribute it. Depp’s character being a teen idol didn’t help keep him interested in 21 Jump Street; he felt trapped in the role. According to rumors, Depp “tried everything he could” to get himself booted off the 21 Jump Street set.
Edward Scissorhands actor Johnny Depp gave up and purposefully torched his trailer so he could be removed from the production. Twenty-First Century Fox was not going to give up its most marketable commodity in the middle of the season because of such a childish tantrum.

Johnny Depp reportedly despised his time on the show because he was unwilling to commit to one project for an extended period of time and because the material was presented in a serialized format. He was overheard in a chat stating that the plot was the primary reason he joined the cast, but that he ultimately opted to leave the show during the production of the second season.
By the third season, Depp was using increasingly dramatic tactics to have himself booted from the show. Depp Stated that He Wouldn’t Make a Comeback without Peter Deluise
There is a featurette called “Johnny Depp on Set” on the Blu-ray release of “21 Jump Street” that details Depp’s involvement with the production. Hanson and Penhall were approached about appearing in the film, and it turns out that when asked, he told the crew that he would only come back if DeLuise did as well.
The directors had been hoping to get Peter DeLuise on board, and when they heard he was coming back, they convinced Depp to play the part. According to the special, he planned for his on-screen behavior to be the series finale for his recurring role.
As a result, the site where Hanson and Penhall ultimately died came into being. Even while we’re disappointed that Depp won’t be returning for any more “21 Jump Street” spinoffs, it was great to see him go out on top with his old partner by his side.
